HDD or SSD or SSHD - Which one to buy for your laptop?

Are you confused between buying SSD, SSHD and HDD storage for laptop?

Come let's know each of them in details so that you don't remain confused anymore.

An HDD is basically a Hard Disk Drive which majority of people uses in their computer. It consists of disks and read/write head for operations to get performed.
On the other hand, SSD is Solid State Drive. It doesn't contain any moving parts inside it and the thinnest of all available storage options. SSDs are also  a storage place like your HDDs but with some differences.
Now comes the SSHD, which is a Solid State Hybrid Drive which is basically a combination of the two.

So, the basic difference among them is that-

  • HDDs offer high capacity and low price.
  • SSDs are expensive but very fast.
  • SSHDs combine the best of both HDD and SSD.

In terms of capacity,

  • You can get huge capacity HDDs.The storage size of HDDs are exponentially larger than SSDs. Currently reaching upto something maybe like 12 TB of storage.
  • SSDs offer low storage capacity and they are very much expensive. To say, a 240 GB SSDs is approximately Rs. 3500 in Indian Price.
  • SSHDs offer high capacity storage at an affordable price because it is basically the combination of HDD and SSD.
Performance-

  • SSDs no doubt provide peak performance for booting and high read/write performance for computing.
  • SSHDs can provide near-SSD performnace when booting, launching and loading.
  • And HDDs provide ample performance as you can see generally in majority of PCs.

In terms of cost, SSDs are very much expensive when it comes to high storage. But a 250 GB SSD is affordable to many. HDDs provide lowest cost per gigabyte and SSHDs costs a price slightly higher than HDDs.

For Durability, SSDs are highly durable as they don't contain any moving parts. So, they can withstand high shock, drop etc.

So, when upgrading your laptop storage, choosing between SSD,HDD and SSHD is the most crucial decision ever. Overall, Solid State Hybrid Drives (SSHDs) can provide the best combination of performance and budget-friendly to meet your needs.
